Crafty Holiday Gift Guide 2012

Thanksgiving is actually a really great time to think about the crafters and artisans that you know. And I happen to be lucky enough to know A LOT of really talented, up and coming folks that are creating and sharing their work.
And for that, I’m thankful. It’s a huge risk to take your labor of love and expose it to the world! It’s hard to invite people to see your work and possibly critique your work. But it’s bold attempts that allow for real growth.

With Colorado Creative right around the corner, I wanted to talk up a lot of my favorite local businesses and local crafters and artisans that you should consider when purchasing gifts this holiday season.
It’s so much more than just the empty sentiment of “shop local” when you know crafters personally – when you know their kids, their partners, and know their passion. Buying local means more when you know how much is mixed up in the process of creating.

Consider this when you buy your gifts this year and, really, all the time.
Below, we’ve listed some of our faves and we hope that you might list some of your own! Do it! In the comments!

Situated on Colfax, right next to the Irish Snug, The Colorado Bead Company is an oasis of color and creative possibility!
Anne Fellini prides herself on the store’s selection, reasonable pricing, and the friendliness of the joint.
Being kind and open to your clientele is seriously important these days. In a time when it might be easier to just order craft supplies online, it’s such a pleasure to walk into an establishment and feel like you’re welcome and important. Continue reading

Denver Craft Ninjas vs. The Colorado Bead Company

Have you been to Colorado Bead Company? If not, you’re missing out!

Bright, colorful beads, exciting possibilities, and classes that will have you sparkling with handmade bobbles. Nothing better than that!

Well, we’re happy to announce that Anne Fellini, the proprietor of Colorado Bead Company, has agreed to join forces with Denver Craft Ninjas and has created a January project explicitly for US!

Here’s the run down:

Baby, it’s cold outside, but you can get a glimpse of spring with this flowery necklace!
Learn how to create beaded links, wire wrap glass briolettes and make upcycled flowers from cans and glass pearls. This project has been designed exclusively for the Denver Craft Ninjas and 10% of the registration fee will be donated back to the group to create more projects and fun things. Supplies are included in this class, all you need to bring is your lovely self and a can (beer can, soda can, energy drink can). You can choose between silver or antique gold/bronze for your necklace kit.

The cost of the project is $20 and you must REGISTER for this project via Colorado Bead Company’s registration website. You can find the link below.

There are 2 classes for this project – one from 1-3 and one from 2-5. And there are a maximum of 20 Ninjas per class.
We’ll be meeting at Colorado Bead Company this time, but we’d still love for you to bring something yummy, a good friend, and MIMOSAS. BRING MIMOSAS!

Join us to make really lovely pieces of jewelry and support a local crafty business in Denver!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us here or via email at denvercraftninjas@gmail.com.

Can’t wait to see you Ninjas!
