Crochet Flowers

It’s Crafty Goods! Here’s some fun stuff I found to share with you this week!
-Are you familiar with Leonie Dawson? She is a self help author/artist/hippy who has also evolved into an entrepreneur + philanthropist with a half a million dollar company. In her blog this week, she shared a concept I needed to hear – “What you do in the world is needed”.
It’s something we all need to hear! So if you’re feeling uninspired or off track…this could be a good boost!
-I’m super excited to see what’s in the works of my friend Anne Franklin, of Anne Franklin Designs, and her collaboration for BrainyCrafts! Check it out!
-Denver area peeps! Naomi is moving to Indonesia and she wants you to take some of her stash off her hands! Sale is Mar. 22 from 8am-3pm and Mar. 23 from 9am-2pm at 7995 E. Mississippi Ave., A18 Denver, CO  80247 Here’s her Flickr page for just a sample of the goods
-The Aurora Arts Festival’s theme this year is Recycle Upcycle! If you’re a crafter or artisan that uses recycled or upcycled materials, this is the party for you! Hit up their website for info! But do it fast! They have limited spaces for you darlings!
-My amazing friend Kelli from Bitter O’Clock has an e-book for crafty types called, “Tax Tips for Crafty Businesses”.
If you need some help, take a peek here and then shower Kelli with love because she’s offering it FOR FREE!
-Looks like they are still accepting folks for the Denver Mini Maker Faire – Hustle your bunz if you want in!
-This weekend at Share Denver there is all kinds of good stuff happening! Denver Craft Ninjas are teaching a paper marbling class and Risa is teaching a pearl and metal bracelet! Come hang out at Share Denver and learn something new for heaven’s sake! And next week there’s even more! Katrina’s The Art of Risottos, Gratins, & Classic Sauces, Pom Pom Mobiles with Lili, Melamine Bird Feeders with me (and I don’t even like birds!), Chainmail Amulet Bag with Risa, and Craft Your Blog with Sara from Meanest Look!
-How amazing is this art installation by Beili Liu? It’s called The Mending Project and it so stunning and overwhelming.
Spring is here! FINALLY! And I’m feeling it! New inspiration, positivity, and an urge to create!
What’s floating your boat, Ninjas? Share in the comments or hit me up on Facebook and fill me in!

MCA Denver Teen Pop-Up Shop

There’s pretty much nothing I’m more in support of than cultivating the abilities of young crafters!
Finding something creative that you love and developing a process as a maker is important for young people. It can encourage entrepreneurial spirit!

Clean & Organized Craft Space

Making a Mess

It is my humble opinion that you’re not crafting unless you’re making a holy nightmare of a mess!
But I will concede that there are ways to keep your work space clean and organized as you craft.
The endlessly smart people at Apartment Therapy  shared a list of ways to keep your mess managed and help you keep your sanity whilst in the midst of creating!

Do you have any tried and true methods for handling the inevitable craft detritus that comes with your projects?
Share your process in the comments!

Denver Craft Ninjas – Paper Marbling!

Denver Craft Ninjas March Project

Denver Craft Ninjas March Project

I’ve always loved the way that paper marbling looks!
It’s sort of psychedelic and mesmerizing – but tasteful too.
Aren’t all the best things a combination of those descriptors?!

I’m excited to be teaching this cool paper marbling workshop at Share Denver for our March project on March 23rd.
Here are the details:

I’ll bring the paint and the paper and you come ready to get your hands a little dirty!
All attendees will leave with gorgeous pieces they can use for personalized stationary, wrapping paper, place settings, or any other amazing thing your little heart desires! It’s BYOB! So bring your own beermosa or Irish coffee!

What’s included: Everything you need!

What to bring: You!  Bring you… and your own beverage!

Level: Beginner | 18+

Market Season!

Market Season
Spring market season is starting, Ninjas!
And I, for one, am so excited to share these markets with you! If you are a crafter, artisan, DIYer – these events are for  you!
If you’ve been wanting to dive into selling your wares at a market…now’s the time to give it a whirl.
And if you’re just a fervent supporter of handmade, update your calendar so you can shop these amazing events!

Here are a few that should jump start your market game plan:

Firefly Handmade
With the deadline for Firefly just days away, it’s time for you to get your application in pronto!
Here’s a link to the application! The market takes place in Boulder on April 26th & 27th with a jury fee of $15.
All the details are on the page so read up and hustle your buns!

Horseshoe Market
Our friends at Horseshoe just updated their website and hooboy is it awesome!
I’m extra excited about their all new application page! Here’s the link for you vendors eager to grab a spot in this super fun market!
The spring market is in their usual spot in the Highlands on May 10th!

This new market looks pretty amazing! With a focus on regional artists and makers, and portions of booth sales going to a community partner, this is an exciting new event for vendors! And it’s at the Pavilions on the 16th Street Mall – great foot traffic and lots of fun things to do downtown after you’re done shopping! May 24th and 25th!
Booths are a touch pricey, but the exposure might be just what your crafty/artsy business needs!
Here’s a link to their application page – deadline is in April…so, you’ve got some time.

And this is just the start!
There’s more good stuff coming AND you can count on a market happening at Share Denver this spring as well!
So, start making your market plan of attack!

Fresh Start!

Denver Craft Ninjas has changed. It’s not that I wanted it to change. It wasn’t planned. But sometimes you want to believe you can do it all. That’s what I’ve been trying to do since Share Denver opened.
Owning a business, having a business partner – it’s a lot. A lot more concerns, worry and struggle than just a monthly craft group meet up. It’s hard. Sometimes your dreams come true and then you have to come to terms with what that really means.
It means work and making it work. It means letting go of things you loved to put your intention and focus into something bigger and scarier and more awesome.

Denver Craft Ninjas is still alive! We’re still doing our monthly events…except now, it’s at Share Denver.
Three Kings is and was awesome, but it was the basement of a bar. And schlepping materials and supplies was hard work for a team of one. Now, everything is in one place. One sunny, fun, inspiring place!

Take some time to visit us at Share Denver and learn about all the cool workshops that are happening there.

I’ve been considering updating this blog and determining what I wanted next for this space on the internet where great crafty things have happened.
Denver Craft Ninjas will continue to offer our monthly get-togethers. We’ll still swill mimosas, talk garbage, and get glue and glitter on our faces, but this blog is going to be so much more than that.
Denver is such an inspiring place! There’s so much going on with our friends, our community, and I want this spot to be a place where you can learn about it all.

I’ll be updating with craft projects, cool events around Denver, markets & fairs, and notable people in the community that make Denver’s creative community one of the best in the world!

Stay tuned for what is to come and feel free to contact me if you’d like to get involved, share ideas, or get crafty with us!
